Student Safety Reminder

As the year comes to an end things get very busy for everyone and sometimes in our haste we become less vigilant.  When dropping your child at school, please remember to ensure they exit the vehicle directly onto the footpath and not onto the road.  Remember too that the area near the roundabout on Tom Roberts Drive is a designated Bus Zone and not a drop off point.  It  is also unsafe for cars to be pulling in and out of this area with students rushing to exit the vehicle and not being aware of their surroundings and cars pulling in and out of traffic unexpectedly.

Child Safe Standards

Ministerial Order No:870 sets out the specific actions that schools need to take to meet the Child Safe Standards.  The introduction of child safe standards form part of the government's response to the recommendations of the Betrayal of Trust report, which found that more must be done to prevent and response to child abuse in schools.  The standards will promote cultures where protecting children from abuse is part of everyday thinking and practice in organisations.

The Child Safe Standards set out to create safe places for children to fully and actively participate in the life of the community benefiting everyone.

Point Cook College will ensure that the children in our care are protected to the best of our ability and in line with our duty of care and the compulsory Child Safe Standards.

As part of this commitment we will be regularly sharing information though our communication channels and community engagement activities.  Within class programs, students will be empowered with knowledge of their rights, responsibilities and strategies to keep themselves safe.

All students must understand they have the right to feel safe wherever they go, whatever they do, and have someone they can tell who will know how to keep them safe.  This message is being delivered to students at school, and we encourage parents to unpack this message further at home.
