School's Sheep Production

Whilst the weather might be cooling down, production on the school farm is just beginning to ramp up. From Easter onwards the School's stud Dorper sheep have successfully produced 3 ram lambs and 1 ewe lamb. The School has been able to vastly improve the stud program with the help and support of Carl Press. Carl donated the services of two of his rams last year to join to our stud and commercial ewes. The ram lambs will be grown out, used over our commercial flock and then put up for sale. The ewe will be retained for use in the stud. The commercial flock started lambing at the start of Week 3 and to date they have produced two sets of twins and one single. Middle School has been involved in monitoring the health of these animals leading up to lambing. Year 7 have had the opportunity to start handling and quietening the stud lambs so that they can be taught to lead at a later date.
