Premier's Reading Challenge 2018
Book Fair and Author Visit
Week 2 of Term 2 saw our first Book Fair for 2018 at Uralla Central School. The 5/6 students were lucky enough to kick off the week with a visit from Australian author and illustrator Judith Rossell. This was a wonderful workshop to help students create their own illustrations. Judith was able to demonstrate the design and creation processes that she herself uses. Many weird and wonderful monsters were created as a result, thankfully all of them on paper.
Book Fair has been a great success. The book fair itself has seen fantastic patronage over the week. At Uralla Central School we understand that reading is a core skill that can set students up for life. It has been wonderful to see so many young readers keen to buy books. Even our older students (Year 7 and up) have shown more interest in the book fair this year, compared to previous years. This year there are the usual student prizes for positive work and kindness in class and the colouring competitions. In addition to these, this year we had a ‘count the hidden bones’ challenge, where the students needed to count all of the bones in the library. All up 34 prizes were awarded this book fair, a record number.
To round up the book fair, we had a surprise visit from the beloved book character, Geronimo Stilton. Students and staff alike were shocked and delighted by the visit, as you can see from the images.
All of the library staff and helpers hope that everyone had as much fun at the book fair as we did setting it up and running it.
