From the Principal

In the tradition of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart, the founders of Mount St. Joseph Girls’ College, MSJ students are committed to projects that improve the lives of vulnerable people in Australia and internationally. We strive to live the message promoted by St Mary MacKillop – “never see a need without doing something about it”.

The social justice activities that the students have engaged in this term depict their passion and awareness of the plight of others in underdeveloped countries throughout the world. The students have organised fundraising activities that support the work of the Mary MacKillop foundation, African famine and Caritas among others. The recent Sleep Out Night held on the 21 September was an opportunity for students to become involved in the awareness and understanding of the homeless and most vulnerable in our community . Over 60 Students went without the necessities like a hot shower, a large supply of food, their phone and technology, a comfy bed and pillow for the night to experience a small portion of what others experience regularly.

As we come to the close of this very busy term, we would like to congratulate the students and staff for their enthusiasm and support of the Arts at MSJ. The Variety Night and the recent Music and Arts Night were fantastic showcases of the talent and willingness of MSJ talents to express themselves through art, music, drama and dance. The VCE Folio exhibition on the 19 October will exhibit the hard work and talent that the VCE students have put into their studies this year. All members of the college community are welcome to attend.

Lastly, as Spring emerges and as we head into the assessment period, it is important that students focus on their learning and have a sense of their strengths and areas of improvement.

At this time there is much uncertainty in the world, let us remember the words of St Mary Mackillop,

"I cannot forget that there is a dear good God watching over us". (3.4.1871)
