World Scholar's Cup

GEC successfully hosts our first World Scholar’s Cup

The thrilling World Scholar’s Cup took place on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th June 2019 at GEC. Students competed from the SEAL classes, 7B and 8B, against a range of other schools that included Ballarat Clarendon, HOPE, Star of the Sea, St Aloysius and many others.

Over 200 students competed against each other in four challenges. Students developed a positive team spirit by working together ensuring everyone was acting responsibly and creatively. The future scholars directed their own learning through questioning, exploring and discovering new ideas and innovative solutions.

The teams of three students were enthusiastic and motivated to achieve the best score possible. Communication and respect gave teams the winning edge as these concepts were the focus of the competition to ensure fair play and inclusive fun centred around collaborative learning. All teams seized new opportunities to participate and learn about the demands of the Scholar’s Cup in hope of competing in the next round. This resulted in a great opportunity to learn about our peers and insight about oneself.

Overall this was a great event to get involved in and learn in a different way from the usual subject lessons. Multiple teams from GEC made it through to the global round where they will compete against students from over 40 nations.

Students will have the opportunity to showcase their own culture and embrace other cultures. The global round will take place in 10 different locations around the world, including our very own Sydney.

The experience made learning fun and I wish everyone the best of luck when they compete in Sydney later in the year.
