Library Corner

The weeks are flying by and our students have enjoyed many events and celebrated special days. Reconciliation Week and National Sorry Day were important events in the Glen Eira College calendar. In support of teaching staff the Library staff curated a colourful display which incorporated sprigs of various native plants of significance to traditional custodians. These were sourced and arranged in the display case by Mrs Megan Gatt.

The annual House Trivia Competition was run in the Library over a series of lunch sessions and was very well attended. The daily Quizzes were well organised and a wonderful example of student agency in action.

Students participating in this year’s Year 9 program recently performed the roles of United Nations General Assembly delegates. The Library played venue for two days of debate, public speaking, problem solving  and critical thinking. Students represented 21 nations during the first Model Convention and 23 nations during the second Model Convention.

Eight students have completed  The Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge - six students in 7B and one student each representing 8E and 8G. It’s not too late to log in and start the Challenge - follow the links on the Library’s Web OPAC page: https://library.gec.vic.edu.au Please see Library staff should you need your log in details.

The Library is still highly popular at lunchtimes with many students enjoying the relaxed social vibe of the spaces - reading, playing card games, chess or computer games. Our Book Club students have enjoyed talking about their favourite reads and are always prepared to justify why Harry Potter rules.  New members are welcome - please see Library Staff if you are interested in joining and also if you are keen to be a Library Monitor.

Many new books are now available - most chosen by students via the Book Suggestion Box kept at the Library’s circulation desk.  Come and check these out - and don’t forget the great range of eBooks and audiobooks available through the College’s ePlatform.
