Wings of Art/Křídla umění
On the 15th of January, a charity art exhibition was held at Manes Art Restaurant. Many of the pieces of art displayed and sold had been created by the talented students of multiple international schools all over Prague with 13 of them being from the English College. All the proceeds from the evening went to Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres) and their mission in Yemen. This is because Yemen is currently experiencing the world’s largest humanitarian crisis due to an outbreak of civil war in 2015. 3 million people have lost their homes and it is estimated that another 23 million are in dire need of humanitarian assistance. In addition to this conflict, Sanaa, the capital city of Yemen, is due to be the first capital city in the world to run out of water. Although the main aim was to raise money and awareness of this issue, it was also a great positive to see 5 international schools unite together behind this noble cause.
The event raised a total of 241,891 Czech crowns with 87,170 Czech crowns being made from the auctioning of the pieces of art made by students. To put that in perspective, this sum could be used to provide vaccinations for over 30,000 kids, in case there is an outbreak of measles, or 14 days of nutritional therapy for 800 kids. A success specific to ECP is that we made the most money out of all the schools, 36,900 Czech crowns. On average 68% of the student art pieces were sold but from our school it was 85%. More than 500 people attended the evening, some of whom were proud staff members coming to support our students and this noble cause. Hopefully, this event will become an annual tradition.

Mnohá z vystavených a prodávaných uměleckých děl vytvořili talentovaní studenti několika pražských mezinárodních škol, z toho 13 děl prezentovali žáci Anglického gymnázia. Všechny výnosy ze slavnostního večera šly na podporu organizace Lékaři bez hranic (Médecins Sans Frontieres) a jejich misi v Jemenu. Důvodem je to, že Jemen v současné době prožívá největší humanitární krizi na světě v důsledku vypuknutí občanské války v roce 2015. Tři miliony lidí přišly o domov a odhaduje se, že dalších 23 milionů naléhavě potřebuje humanitární pomoc. Kromě tohoto konfliktu má Sanaá, hlavní město Jemenu, být prvním hlavním městem na světě, kde dojde voda. Přestože hlavním cílem bylo získat finanční prostředky a rozšířit povědomí o této otázce, velmi pozitivní byla i spolupráce 5 mezinárodních škol na tomto vznešeném projektu.
Akce vynesla celkem 241 891 Kč, z čehož prostředky v hodnotě 87 170 Kč byly získány aukcí uměleckých děl vytvořených studenty. Jinak řečeno, tato částka by mohla být použita na očkování více než 30 000 dětí v případě, že by došlo k rychlému šíření onemocnění spalničkami, nebo na 14 dní nutriční terapie pro 800 dětí. Specifickým úspěchem ECP je to, že jsme ze všech škol vydělali nejvíce - 36 900 Kč. V průměru se prodalo 68% studentských uměleckých děl, ale pro Anglické gymnázium byl průměr 85%. Večera se zúčastnilo více než 500 lidí, z nichž někteří byli pyšní zaměstnanci, kteří přišli podpořit naše studenty a ušlechtilé charitativní téma. Doufejme, že se tato událost stane každoroční tradicí.

Dear Mrs Švejdová,
Thank you for your message. We had some hectic times at the end of the year and we are currently moving to new premises.
Your students were absolutely fantastic! :) It was obvious that they are not afraid to work with seniors, they were very nice and helpful and some volunteers who had less communicative clients still managed to work beautifully with them. Personally, I have to say that it was a very beautiful workshop and we had nice feedback from the department that everyone really liked it. When some clients finished their advent wreath and wanted to go to their room (great social activities are difficult for them), the students helped us create decorative twigs from the remaining branches, which veterans could give to their friends who could not do it or to their families.
The students were very clever and we worked very well with them.
You can see on the photos I am sending how well and quickly the students fit into cooperating with the whole team and clients :)

děkuji za zprávu. My jsme to teď měli koncem roku trochu hektické aktuálně se stěhujeme do nových prostor.
Vaši studenti byli naprosto fantastičtí! :) Bylo vidět, že se práce se seniory nebojí, byli velice milí a vstřícní a některým dobrovolnicím, které měly méně komunikativní klienty se i tak dařilo krásně s klienty spolupracovat. Za sebe musím říct, že to byla velmi krásná dílna a měli jsme i hezkou zpětnou vazbu z oddělení, že se dílna všem líbila. Když si někteří klienti dotvořili adventní věnec a chtěli již jít na pokoj (velké společenské aktivity jsou pro ně náročné), pomohli nám studenti ještě ze zbývajícího chvojí vytvořit ozdobné větvičky, kteří veteráni mohli věnovat svým kamarádům, kteří nemohli tvořit nebo také rodině. :)
Studenti byli moc šikovní a krásně se nám s nimi spolupracovalo.
