Wings of Art - Exhibition in the Manes Gallery

During my visit to the exhibition ‘The Wings of Art’ at Manes Exhibition Hall, I had an incredible opportunity to see works of art from other international schools in Prague. The variety of perspectives in which IB artists have explored and presented the theme has greatly amazed me by providing inspiration in experimentation in a variety of art areas. The artworks were presented in different shapes, sizes and forms; the most common format of presentation was 2D drawings and photographs. There were also some unusual and unique statues and figures made by using different materials, such as colourful glass, which widened the scope of creativity – making the exhibition surprising and igniting the interest of the visitor.

The diversity of the students’ approaches was shown by the differences of the works’ style which was supported by different understandings of the theme. For example, some of the art works reminded me more of sketches which gave them an interesting and maybe even slightly casual appearance; this added more professionalism to the exhibition by reflecting the different steps and stages of creating an art work. On the other hand, other art works were large scale and incredibly detailed; they included portraits, landscapes and many abstract art pieces which reflected the variety of colour schemes and textural experimentation. Brighter and darker tones were commonly combined together and effectively used to spread and present the artists’ message, and their understanding of the themes related to the exhibition. The themes explored and presented at the exhibition mostly reflected social and personal themes such as war, freedom; some partly referenced religion, and another popular inclusion was beautiful drawings of nature such as birds and insects.

Během naší návštěvy výstavy „Křídla umění“ ve výstavním sále Manes jsem měla skvělou příležitost vidět umělecká díla z dalších mezinárodních škol v Praze. Různá hlediska, ve kterých studenti IB prozkoumali a představili toto téma, mě velmi ohromila tím, že poskytla inspiraci v experimentování v různých uměleckých oblastech. Umělecká díla byla prezentována v různých tvarech, velikostech a formách; nejběžnějším formátem prezentace byly 2D kresby a fotografie. Objevily se také neobvyklé a jedinečné sochy a postavy vyrobené z různých materiálů, jako je barevné sklo, které rozšířily rozsah kreativity - výstava byla překvapivá a vzbudila zájem návštěvníků.

Rozmanitost přístupů studentů se projevila odlišnostmi stylů prací, které byly podporovány různými pohledy na dané téma. Například některá umělecká díla mi připomínala spíše náčrty, což je činí ještě zajímavějšími a také mírně ležérnějšími. Výstavě to také dodalo více profesionality tím, že to odráželo různé kroky a fáze tvorby uměleckého díla. Na druhou stranu jiná umělecká díla byla rozsáhlá a neuvěřitelně detailní a zahrnovala portréty, krajiny nebo abstraktní umělecká díla, která odrážela rozmanitost barevných schémat a experimentů s texturami. Světlejší a tmavší tóny byly běžně kombinovány a efektivně využívány k šíření a prezentaci uměleckých sdělení a jejich chápání témat souvisejících s výstavou. Témata zkoumaná a prezentovaná na výstavě odrážela převážně sociální a osobní motivy jako je válka či svoboda; některé částečně odkazovaly na náboženství a dalším oblíbeným tématem byly krásné kresby přírody, například ptáků či hmyzu.

Romeo and Juliet/Romeo a Julie

Preparations & rehearsals for the upcoming Romeo & Juliet production are in full swing as students from across the Arts Faculty collaborate through Drama, Dance, Music and Visual Arts.

We warmly invite you to see the performance and celebrate their artistic efforts on Tuesday 25th February @ 19.30 (Tickets 250kč/200kč concession). Advance reservations can be made by emailing reservations@englishcollege.cz, payable in cash at the door. All Y1 & Y2 will visit a matinee on Wednesday 26th at 13.00.

A number of students are involved in this creative production either as actors, musical performers, dancers, costume designers or set designers. Based on the school's cross curricular themes of environment and technology we will explore the characters of Romeo and Juliet in a world with an uncertain future.

Our hope is that by creatively re-interpreting and exploring the historical text through a variety of art forms that our students gain knowledge, insight and experience of the Arts Industry, as well as developing valuable 21st century transferable skills such as collaboration, confidence, imagination and innovation.

Přípravy a zkoušky na nadcházející produkci představení Romeo & Julie jsou v plném proudu a studenti z oddělení umění spolupracují prostřednictvím dramatu, tance, hudby a vizuálního umění. Srdečně Vás zveme na představení, kde můžete ocenit umělecké úsilí studentů. Koná se v úterý 25. února v 19:30 hod (cena: vstupenka 250Kč/se slevou 200Kč). Předběžné rezervace lze provést e-mailem na adrese booking@englishcollege.cz, vstupenky lze zaplatit při příchodu. Všichni studenti 1. a 2. ročníku navštíví představení ve středu 26.2. ve 13:00 hod.

Do tvůrčí produkce je zapojeno mnoho studentů v rolích herců, hudebních umělců, tanečníků, kostýmních návrhářů nebo scénografů. Na základě průřezových témat školy, což je životní prostředí a technologie, prozkoumáme postavy Romea a Julie ve světě s nejistou budoucností.

Doufáme, že studenti získají znalosti, náhled a zkušenosti z uměleckého průmyslu díky kreativnímu přepracování, zkoumání historického textu prostřednictvím různých uměleckých forem a také rozvíjení cenných přenositelných dovedností 21. století, jako jsou spolupráce, důvěra, představivost a inovace.

Physics/Fyzika

Arduino/Makerspace ECA/Kroužek techniky

Students in the Arduino/Makerspace ECA have been involved in making a whole range of projects, from simple 'Traffic Lights, programmed using an Arduino board, to more complex remote controlled cars. The current 'big' project is building a speaking robot with a built-in Ultrasonic sensor for detecting objects. The Club uses a 3D printer built by students to manufacture the various parts. Students do all the design, build, programming, electronic wiring and soldering required to make these projects. They also design and build components for other students to use in various Physics classes.

Studenti v zájmovém kroužku Arduino / Makerspace se podíleli na tvorbě celé řady projektů, od jednoduchých „semaforů“ naprogramovaných pomocí desky Arduino až po složitější dálkově ovládaná vozidla. Současný „velký“ projekt je konstrukce mluvícího robota se zabudovaným ultrazvukovým senzorem pro detekci objektů. Klub používá 3D tiskárnu vytvořenou studenty k výrobě různých součástek. Studenti dělají vše, od návrhu, přes sestavení, programování, elektronické zapojení a pájení potřebné k realizaci těchto projektů. Navíc také navrhují a staví komponenty pro ostatní studenty k využití při výuce fyziky.

PHYSICS PROJECT/PROJEKT VE FYZICE

A Physics project with a literacy component assigned by Mr Straughan in Year 3 generated many interesting works. Students were to present a Physics topic through a piece of creative writing i.e. a short story, a crime story, love story, poem, a song or haiku. Creativity and imagination were important factors in the assessment.

Průřezový projekt ve fyzice zadaný panem Straughanem ve 3. ročníku přinesl mnoho zajímavých výtvorů. Studenti měli představit fyzikální téma prostřednictvím kreativního psaní, tj. povídky, příběhu detektivky, milostného příběhu, básně, písně nebo haiku. Kreativita a představivost byly důležitými faktory při hodnocení.
