Hello everyone,
In case you haven’t noticed, the weather is getting colder. “Inside play” is something we all have to think about, when the weather is not suitable for playing outside. So what do you do with your children? There are so many costs that go along with some activities, but I have compiled a list of “free” indoor activities. To keep the children busy on those cold, wet and rainy days.
1. Build a Fort with Blankets and Pillows
Build a den out of the sofa cushions, chairs or clothes rack, with a blanket or sheets draped over, or create a fort out of a big cardboard box with packing tape to hold the sides together.
2. Indoor Treasure Hunt
Have the children find a selection of things, or set them a selection of things to do.
3. Tidy out the Playroom or Bedroom
This may sound like a chore to start, but as the kids start to find toys, they hadn’t seen for a while, they will get in on the fun! Only precaution is be prepared to finish the tidying on your own, as they go off to play with some “long-lost” toy!
4. Play Board Games
Play some board games together. Here are a few suggestions.
The Game of Life, Guess Who, Battleship, Chess, Jenga, Twister, Monopoly & Cluedo
5. Make a Home Cinema
Set up a home cinema and settle down to watch some fun family movies together. Here are some wonderful movies that every family should watch together.
Mary Poppins, Shrek, Paddington, E.T., Frozen, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Toy Story, The Jungle Book, Back to the Future & Despicable Me
6. Google “How to Draw…”
Google “How to draw…” selecting whatever your child wants, such as a dinosaur, racing car, fairies, princess, animals etc. Get some blank sheets of paper and some pencils and let them loose.
7. Play Cards
Remember the card games you used to play as a child? Why not teach your kids how to play some card games.
A few suggestions are: Uno, Skip-Bo, Phase 10, but I am sure you know of many more.
8. Bake Something
Most kids love to bake, and with the promise of a sweet treat at the end, this can be a very enjoyable activity.
9. The Best Activity of Them All ….
Reading. Have plenty of books available for the children to choose from. Whether they are from the school library, your local community library, an op shop or ones you have purchased yourself, have them out and easily accessible.
Encourage quiet reading time, when they need to relax. Better still, sit down with them for a while and listen to them read to you, or you read to them.
New books in The Library
Here are the new books, they are a mixture of Fiction, Picture and Non Fiction
Kinder Visit
Last Monday, a group of children from Jacks Avenue Kindergarten came to Kingswood. They visited the library where I read them the Aaron Blabey book, I Need a Hug. Afterwards they browsed through some books before taking a walk through the Prep classrooms, to see the Prep students and their teachers in action. Their visit to Kingswood was finished off with a play in the junior playground.
