House News -  Monoceros

Mr Nigel Adkin- Monoceros House Leader

As Melbourne was placed into yet another lockdown for the last four weeks it has been extremely hard for our students to enjoy their schooling journey this term.  What we have seen though is our students continue to demonstrate their resilience and dedication to their learning as we are all testing in different ways through on-line learning.

Over the last couple of weeks students have had the opportunity to participate in a number of on-line activities. Book Week took place in week five and this was followed by the Science Week challenges in Week 6.

One of the Science challenges required students to do the rice flip challenge. They were required to place the School initials SJRC in a tray and then flip it in the air. Congratulations to Dunil MO5, for his participation in this challenge.

The Monoceros Learning mentors and I look forward to welcoming all our students back to school once lockdown is finished.

A student perspective of 2021 by Rita Kazona – Monoceros House Captain

We are almost nine months in and it feels like we only just started yesterday.  Lockdown after lockdown has proved to make time go faster than ever.  Although we’re currently stuck in our homes, it has been gratifying to reflect on the events that we have already experienced such as house aquatics and athletics, and undoubtedly Year 12 Retreat.

Remote learning isn’t necessarily new to most of us, but six lockdowns in and there are still challenges.  It definitely has been hard to maintain motivation and a positive work ethic throughout this time, but I strongly encourage everyone to keep pushing forward considering the year is almost over.

With exams quickly approaching, here is a reminder to take time for yourself and to check up on the people around you.  It will be over before you know it!
