Community Week 

We are very excited to promote and inform you about our upcoming Community Week during Week 10 – Monday 13th September to Friday 17th September. Our theme of ‘Coming together’ encompasses not only bringing together all the College’s Leaders to plan, organise and run the week, but also aims to bring together our whole school community We would love all students to embrace this week and get fully involved in as many activities as possible.

Four Square Competition 

Staying active and having fun is so important for both our physical and mental health. Participation in games help to develop good sportsmanship and a sense of belonging. Given the current climate, we believe this type of involvement is even more important. Be sure to rally up some friends and join in on the fun!

Staff Versus Student Basketball Match 

There is nothing like a competitive sports match to bring together a community. Whether you are planning on cheering on the staff or year 12 students this game is going to be spectacular. So come down and join us to see who the outright champions will be. Between you and us - we think that the Year 12 students have the game in the bag!!

Thank you for supporting our fundraising for R U OK day. Wear your R U OK wristband today. Don’t have one – no worries. The SRC will be selling wristbands at both recess and lunchtime today.

Year 9 Mental Health Session 

Supporting friends and taking care of yourself is vital to maintaining good health and wellbeing. Mental health is a topic that comes with a stigma and with the impacts of COVID, it’s more important than ever to raise awareness and check-in with the people around you. To equip Year 9’s with the tools they need to look out for others and themselves, the School for Student Leadership team will be holding a mental health session during Aspire in Community Week. 

 

Details 

What: An informative and engaging lesson for Year 9 students focusing on how to support other people and maintain personal wellbeing.  

When: Tuesday 14th September during ASPIRE.  

Where: CBLOCK

Mental health- a topic that is so important, especially during these unprecedented times. R U OK Day is a chance to speak up and ask the question to our peers, R U OK? It provides us with a chance to reach out to everyone in our community, to stay connected and support those who are in need.

Chill out room- K22 and K23 Come and enjoy watching a playlist of funny video clips over lunch Information stand- Come over and gain some information on mental health and have a chat to one of our wellbeing staff. Collect a random act of kindness plaque and share it with a friend 

Positivity wall - Get uplifted by walking past our positivity wall and soak up an inspirational quote. Better still, come over to our table and contribute your own quote to our wall. 

R U OK wristband - if you haven't had the chance to purchase a R U OK wristband, come down and do so. All proceeds go to the R U OK day charity 

Music and Fun games - join us in the East courtyard to shake your booty and see 'how low you can go'

When you sacrifice your hair – you send a powerful message of hope. In the days of COVID, we believe that now more than ever, we want to spread this word. In addition, stress, confusion and anger are commonplace as a result of the current COVID pandemic. We are looking forward to bringing together our whole school community for your enjoyment and fun to watch our ‘golden’ locks fall.

Change my mind-  

Our “change my mind” event has been inspired by Steven Crowder. Steven Crowder, an American- Canadian sparked a great debate when he seated himself behind a sign in front of Texas Christian University that read “Male privilege is a myth// Change my mind”. Debating is a valuable activity for students of all skill levels. Debate teaches useful skills for other academic pursuits and life more generally. It is a fun activity that brings people together to enjoy healthy discussions, some more heated than others.

Book Scavenger Hunt 

Throughout Brentwood’s history, the library has always been the beating heart of the school, as a place for students to connect and study together. To recognise the teamwork that has been integral to keeping school life running smoothly during these chaotic COVID times, the library is holding a fun and exciting lunchtime filled with groupwork-based book scavenger hunt activities!  

 

Details: 

When: Wednesday 15th September 

Time: 1:14-1:21pm (first round) and 1:29-1:36pm (second round) 

Due to COVID restrictions, only 100 people are allowed in the Library – so the book scavenger hunt will have two rounds, with only 100 people allowed inside per round  

Only first 30 people that arrive to complete the activities during the time frame for each round are allowed to be a part of the group activities 

Spectators are welcome.

What: Book Scavenger Hunt with group activities (Book charades, Book association and Book Pictionary)  

Prizes will be awarded throughout the activities

Radio Is Back! 

Remember Love Radio?? We are back and better than ever, with Brentwood’s Bangerz! I'm sure like us, throughout all of the lockdowns, you have started to feel the disconnection between yourself and your fellow peers. We are excited to be getting back together, with music and fun games It is definitely going to be the best one yet!

FRIDAY 17th September 

Henna Art 

As a traditional art style with strong ties to many cultures, the Language and International Captains have chosen Henna Art for our contribution to Community Week. Henna art celebrates the joyous gathering of people and symbolises good health and prosperity. Our Henna artists will be using white henna instead of traditional brown henna, ensuring there are NO hazardous chemicals and is completely safe.  

 

Details 

What: For a gold coin donation you can have your hand painted by some of our skilled Henna artists. 

When: Friday 17th September at recess and lunchtime 

Where: TLC (recess) and Oval (lunch) 

We recommend that if you do have sensitive skin or any significant skin allergies to please refrain from getting henna done. We value your safety above anything else.

Music Madness 

Get Excited Everyone! Brentwoods ICONIC Music Madness is in Community Week, WEEK 10 and we can't wait to showcase the incredible talent our student and teachers. Music is a universal language and has no boundaries. Music provides people with a vehicle to express their emotions in performance or simply a way to deal with everyday stresses. We can't wait to come together with you to celebrate the musical talents of our college community.

Whole school Picnic  

Being in nature can help clear your head and bring you into the present moment as well as aiding de-stressing and relaxation. Likewise, sharing a meal with friends can bring with it great joy. The Brentwood Green team would love for you to join us outside with a group of friends to enjoy their company, food and music. So organise your friends, a picnic blanket and join us on the oval for a relaxing picnic lunch.

A Night To Remember  

The last two COVID years have been a whirlwind of an on-again off-again relationship with home learning, malfunctioning Teams calls, lunches in bed and living in Oodie’s for our Year 12 cohort. To recognise the Year 12’s journey through these crazy times, we are holding a ‘Night To Remember’

Woodwork for Wellbeing 

 As a huge thank you to wellbeing team for all the amazing work that they do for our school community, both in and out of remote learning. I, Riley Daniels, and in collaboration with the students from Product Design this year, are working towards creating a new Wellbeing sign.

When: Worked on throughout Community Week and until the end of the year  

Where: Wellbeing entrance.  

What: A Big sign that incorporates design elements of the essence of Wellbeing.
