With the extension of the lockdown now official, it is easy to focus on the negatives that are in front of us. It is important in a time of change to re-evaluate and to look for the positives that exist.

 

The extra time that has been afforded to us by a compulsory lockdown is a great time for personal reflection. Yes, for many of us we have missed grand-finals, eisteddfods and events that time and effort was put into over the last two terms. However, we have time to focus and home in on pursuits that are important us as individuals. Continuing to focus on your co-curricular pursuits during lockdown is possible and is a fantastic way to create structure and routine to your daily life. Whether it is time to practice your musical instrument, train for your upcoming sport or simply dedicate time to a hobby you are passionate about. 

 

I encourage you to start this journey by setting yourself goals. Goal setting is a powerful motivator in the short term whilst driving you towards your long-term vision. Goal setting forces you to commit, provides clarity around what you would like to achieve and challenges you to work towards this goal. Goals should be:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Relevant
  • Time bound

Normally we would be starting our summer sports trials over the next few weeks at school. Whilst this is not currently possible it is still possible to start preparing yourself. 

One of the large positives from the ongoing COVID lockdowns has been the creation of online resources. Below are some links to some of the free resources. I encourage you to maximise the opportunities that are still available. Find yourself an exercise partner as under current guidelines you can exercise with one other person. This is great for both our social and physical health. Choose some drills and fitness options from the resources below, set your personal goals, organise an exercise partner and start working towards achieving your goals.
