STUDIO ARTS

Year 10 Studio Arts - Surrealism

As part of their Yr 10 Studio Arts course students have explored the art movement known as Surrealism. These images relate to experimenting with Surrealist techniques, all aimed at freeing the imagination. They include automatic drawing, grattage, frottage, using double imagery (otherwise known as the “paranoic critical method”), photo-montage and juxtaposition. The Surrealists wanted to show the illogical aspects to the human mind, the things that don’t make sens, as often is the case in our dreams and nightmares. By doing this, they felt that art had a meaningful purpose other than just aesthetics alone. It helped us to understand the human condition. Students explored a variety of media and sources of inspiration to create this imagery.
