Stage 2 Geebungs Science Week

Street Science Show

On 18th August, in ‘Science Week’, Mrs G booked us in to watch a live Science Chow on our devices. The whole of our class - The Geebungs - attended the show. It was cool because the first thing he did was rub a mandarin skin on a balloon and it popped. He explained to us that the acid from the mandarin makes the balloon shrink and pop. I know this works because I tried it and it worked. The second experiment was exploding a Pringles can with nitrogen. He filled up a balloon with it and pumped it into the can of pringles then he lit it and 20 seconds later it exploded. The experiment I liked the most was the mandarin experiment.

On Wednesday, the Geebungs attended a show by Street Science via live stream because it was Science Week and to teach kids about science. Our presenter was French so he had an accent. Raphael said, “Bonjour, merci, café and au revoir!”  We watched science experiments and I liked it when Raphael exploded the Pringles can!  It made me curious about how Raphael turned water into milk by pouring it into a different cup. It was a really fun experience and I enjoyed a lot.

We had to join the Street Science excursion online at 2 o’clock on Wednesday, 18th August. The introduction played, then the host introduced himself. His name was Raphael. The experiments he showed us were the exploding Pringles can, the exploding balloon with a mandarin skin and the edible water bottle. He also talked to us about the different types of sugar and amounts of sugar in food. They opened the chat for questions. He also did polls for questions like - which foods do you think have the most sugar? It was fun but there were no flying potatoes, which was sad.
