Adelle S's Trundle Trip

Adelle spent a day at the end of last year learning about the struggles of the drought affected region of the Central West - as the family drove through Parkes and then onto Trundle,  Adelle learnt about a farmer who has sold off more than 5000 stock to ensure they survive.

The region has not seen rain in a very long time and the town of Trundle recently had its only general store close down, meaning the community needs to embark on a 1hr journey to the nearest major town, Parkes, to get groceries and other items - it’s a sad state of affairs with the town slowly dying economically and having their water supply carted in and drinking water from the 10L drums (as they saw at the school)

Adelle's dad wrote, "Today we partnered with some major clients to deliver much-need supplies in the form of food and bottled water as well as presents for both adults and children just to make their life a little more accommodating."

Adelle learnt many facts about the Trundle Public School:

  • the school has 104 students that come from farming communities and the local township
  • Year 2 had 5 students which Adelle got to meet and become friends with
  • the playground is mostly concrete but they did have a little bit of grass
  • they had a resident dog
  • they had air-conditioned rooms as the heat is extreme
  • they stay inside for most of the day and they do PE inside

Adelle got to do some art with the kids and came back with a card made by the Year 2 kids.

Words from Adelle

Adelle passed on the Christmas cards from St Joseph's students and  said, “They were so excited and it made them very happy”

“It was very sad looking at what the drought has done”

“I hope to have a few pen pals from Trundle School”

Adelle is thankful for the trip and appreciates using water.
