TRANSITION ACTIVITIES

At this time of the year, we focus on activities which will help our students transition from one year level to the next.

These activities start this week and will continue to the end of the school year.

Here are some examples:-

Prep students will spend 2 days in the grade one classrooms during 2017 Prep Orientation. This is a wonderful opportunity to become more familiar with the Grade 1 classrooms and their teachers. They will also pop in from time to time to have lunch with the current Grade 1 students and their teachers.

Grade 2 students will visit the kitchen/garden in preparation for next year’s SAKG program and have opportunities to ask questions about what to expect. Grade 2 students will also transition to the senior playground in 2017 and therefore their teachers will provide familiarisation activities.

Grade 3 students will prepare information booklets for the grade twos and meet for lunch and chat about next year and what to expect.

Grade 4 and 5 students are involved in activities such as ‘circle time’, which is a great opportunity to ask questions, express how they are feeling and hear about what to expect when transitioning into the senior school and composite classes. Miss Large will visit all Grade 4 classes, answering questions and providing information about the 5/6 program.

Whilst our year 6 students are on camp, Grade 4 students will participate in inter school sport activities in preparation for next year.

In the last week of school, House Sports are another opportunity to combine year levels and spend time with other teachers in an informal setting.

On the last day of school, students meet with next year’s teacher and spend an hour together talking about what to expect in 2017.

LUNCHTIME EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Yesterday was our first day holding the ‘Lunchtime Activities’; and what a resounding success it was. Children flocked to the IRC for time with technology and it was great to see the older students helping the younger children to log on and use the programs effectively.

The tech shed was a hive of activity as children created cargo ships out of foil, made sure they could float on water and then tested how much ‘cargo’ they could hold before they sunk.

Lego/ Duplo was also a hit, with children completely engaged with designing and building, and filling the room with a harmonious hum and cooperative chatter.

Today on offer was Kosmic Kids yoga, dance / hip-hop and gardening fun.

I would like to thank the teachers for offering their lunch times to run the activities; without their enthusiasm, the activities wouldn’t occur. I’d also like to thank the students for the wonderful way in which they are enjoying the clubs and working together so peacefully.
