Gabi's Inferno

Issue 1, 2020 Oz Kids in Print publishes stories and poems from talented student writers from all over Australia and page 14 proudly presents Gabi Voges' poem Inferno: a heartfelt and moving poem. It is a great honour to be published, so we asked Gabi 3 questions to inspire others to write poetry.

Questions for a poet:

Q1: What was the inspiration for writing your poem?

A: My mum has always encouraged me to write poetry, but the inspiration behind 'Inferno' came from seeing the effects of the devastating bushfires earlier in the year and the impact it had on so many people and on the animals in those areas too.

Q2: Why do you think poetry is a beautiful way to share devastating stories?

A: Poetry is expressive, creative and personal (as all arts are). It is a way of sharing your ideas and feelings with others and perhaps even a medium on which people can connect and relate.

Q3: What does it feel like to be a published poet?

A: I didn't expect to be published, so it was quite a surprise. But I'm happy that I was and I'm sure it will give me more reason to write now.

So, if you would like to follow in Gabi’s footsteps and enjoy writing poetry, why not join the Library Book Club Google Classroom where a range of competitions and opportunities are there for you to enjoy.

The Library Book Club – Google Classroom Code is: ajmeorv or pop into the library and the librarians will direct you to the page.

Congratulations Gabi on your fabulous achievement.
