Senior School News

At this time of the year we would normally be talking about Year 10 & 11 exams and Year 12 practice exams.  Obviously the term has been quite different to a normal term 2. Instead of exams the VCE students have had a really busy time completing SACs as we wrap up units 2 & 4. It has been quite a challenging period returning to school with the number of SACs due over the past few weeks. We believe that the resilience the students have developed this term will help them later in life and later this year during exam revision.

This year the exam revision period will be extremely important for our Year 12 students as every exam experience helps prepare students for the final VCE exams. We will need to replicate that exam practice as much as possible through the rest of the year.

Studying from home has also had a big impact on our Year 10 & 11 students this term and looks like it may have resulted in a larger number than normal looking to change subjects mid-year. Can I remind all students and families that all changes should be finalised by the beginning of the final week of term.

We would like to wish all students and their families an enjoyable holidays, but also remind students of the importance of completing the work set over the break. In most cases the homework is designed to ensure that students are not going two and a half weeks without thinking about their studies at all. Most of this work is just to keep the information fresh in their minds and will not be excessive in its time commitment.

Year 12 News

It has been a challenging term for our Year 12 students, but they have shown resilience and their ability to adapt to different learning environments.

A reminder to all parents and students that if a scheduled SAC is missed, then a medical certificate is required upon return to school, for the SAC to be completed and a score given. If your son/daughter has any ongoing issues, which inhibits their learning, then these should be discussed with Mr Micallef or myself. This is extremely important as during term 3, students will be applying for 2021 tertiary courses and they may need supporting documentation from us.

The term 2 holidays will be a time to recharge, to strike a good balance between revision and relaxation, ready for a busy term 3 and obviously the beginning of unit 4. I wish all Year 12 students a safe and happy holiday.

Year 11 News

I would like to start by congratulating all Year 11 students on how they have adapted to the changes that have taken place this term in regards to their education. I have been impressed with the way students have transitioned back to face to face teaching. I know that the past few weeks have been challenging and stressful, with lots of SACs and assessment tasks taking place. While it is essential that students stay on top of their workload over the upcoming holidays, it is equally important to have a break and recharge for Semester 2.

Term 2 was a difficult one, but hopefully students can use the experience as something to draw upon for future challenges in VCE. Semester 2 will be an extremely important time. Students will be gaining clarity on the path they want to take for Year 12 and should be looking to maximise their results across all subjects.

Students should also be practicing good study habits, which means setting time aside each night for study, communicating with teachers if unsure about class content, and revising key topics at the end of each week. Getting into a strong study routine will help with the transition into Year 12.

I wish students and families a nice relaxing break, and look forward to seeing everyone back for Semester 2.
