"Are you flexible?"

When Jen and I interview staff for new employment positions at Wyndham Christian College (WCC) we always make a point of asking them one particular question. The question is ‘Are you flexible?’ We ask this question because you need to be flexible to work at WCC! The nature of schools, and even more so at WCC, is that things change, and the change is often quick and unexpected. Change is part of what makes WCC such a dynamic place.  There is never a dull moment around here! WCC is a rapidly growing school, and sometimes there is ‘pain’ with change and growth - think building machinery and puddles! Growth is healthy. If we are not growing and moving forward the danger is that we can become stale and miss out on something new and better. Our students need to learn to change and grow in all areas of their life as this makes them more resilient and able to cope more effectively with changes in their life.

Something that has not changed, and will never change, is God’s love for us. Hebrews 13:8 says “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”. Jesus is called the ‘rock’ and ‘fortress’ and the promise of His love for us and expectations of His people are a place of deep peace and stability.  God’s love and purposes for our world have not changed ever and He is faithful from one generation to another. We regularly share this truth with our students. Let’s not forget that even though there is much change going on around us at WCC, the most important thing will never change-God’s love for us.

A lot of work and planning is going on behind the scenes now finalising the building master plan for WCC and for the next building project (Stage 1B) which will set us up for introducing year 7 in 2022. You have undoubtedly noticed that Stage 1A is complete and may be wondering why we have not yet moved in. Our builder is still completing a couple of requirements from the building surveyor to satisfy compliance standards of the certificate of occupancy (COO) to be issued. Once the COO is issued, we will move straight into our new building. It should not be much longer!

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference" (Reinhold Niebuhr)
