U14 College Gold Cricket Report

The last two weekends have seen the College Gold Under 14 side not record a victory in either game but display many positive outcomes regarding improvement that will hold the team in good stead going forward and a victory isn’t far off occurring. The weather gods were against us two Saturday mornings ago in what could only be described as a typical winter’s day at Pedrina Park but alas it was in late October! The boys braved the weather to bat first against St Andrew’s and post a respectable score of 5/82 with highlights coming from a great partnership between younger players James Heazlewood(11 ret.) and Tom Templeton (15ret.). Unfortunately this was not enough runs as a poor bowling display let the opposition pass our score comfortably. Standout bowlers were Jude Alexander with our only wicket and Darcy Milne.

Last Saturday the team travelled to Tarrington to play a game on turf which is always an enjoyable change from the hard wicket and a valuable one for them for their cricket journey to become accustomed to playing on this surface. We bowled first and restricted Tarrington to 5/79 after a much improved bowling performance this game. Most bowlers were able to achieve a much better line and length making it harder to score. Standouts were Tom Heazlewood with two wickets while Tom Templeton, Hugh Stratmann and Fergus Peddie took a wicket each. James Heazlewood, Jock Nicholls and Jack Jarvis bowled superbly also and George Huf is doing a good job as wicket keeper. In the run chase the team were going well in the early and middle stages of the innings with Fergus Peddie(17no) and Jack Jarvis(14) providing a great partnership and looking like getting the team over the line. Unfortunately however, the run out of Jack and some impressive Tarrington bowling in the last 4 overs meant we went down by 8 runs.
