Advent - a time to patiently wait for Jesus!

This Sunday is the First Sunday of Advent.  Advent is a time for waiting patiently and expectantly for the coming of our Saviour Jesus Christ at Christmas.  We wait for His birth and prepare for him in our hearts by lighting a candle in a wreath, symbolising each Sunday with a message of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love!

Advent comes from the Latin word  which means "coming".  It is a time when we prepare for the coming of Jesus by praying, attending mass, lighting candles and reflecting on our faith journey.  It is written that at this time Mary and Joseph were preparing for the birth of Jesus.

The Advent wreath and candles represent the Light of God coming on earth.   The colour purple and rose for each Sunday brings a special message.

The first candle is the candle of HOPE!  We can have hope because God is faithful and will keep the promises made to us.  Our hope comes from God.  (Romans 15:12-13)

Here at St Anthony's School, the students and staff celebrate each week with an Advent Prayer Liturgy.

On Thursday 26th November we celebrated the First Sunday of Advent with a Prayer Liturgy hosted by the Year 5 and 6 students at 3pm.

Next week, the Year 3 and 4 students will host the Second Advent Prayer Liturgy on Thursday 3rd December at 3pm.

A beautiful way to celebrate each of these Sundays is to make your own wreath.  Here is a way of how to create a wreath at home for you and your family to celebrate each week.

Upcoming events

Christmas Carols & Nativity Play revamped.

We have revamped our Christmas Carols and Nativity Play for this year and we will be recording the Carols and play on Monday 7th December, 2020. The students will be singing carols and the Prep students will act out the Birth of Jesus. This will be professionally recorded and shared with families on Monday 14th December, 2020.

On this day students and staff are invited to wear Christmas colours and sing Christmas carols and songs in their respective classrooms and view the recording.  A touch of green, red, gold or white are typical Christmas colours and this will be a nice way to begin our Christmas festivities.

A Prayer for Advent

Lord, we are so often overwhelmed with the busyness of this time of year.  O come Emmanuel , come into our hearts and show us by your light the beauty of your way of love.  We are your people, Lord and we are waiting for your return.  Come Lord Jesus, come!  Amen.

God Bless,
