Families & Friends club

📒 The SMPS F&F is currently raising money to help for fund the line markings on the concreted areas outside the art room and library. (Such as a hop scotch pattern.) With the money we've raised to date, we're 1/6 of the way there.

If you have any ideas on fundraising activities, please email them to smps.faf@gmail.com

📘Every time you support the school financially through extra-curricular activities, you are helping SMPS get closer to having those line markings. Thank you for supporting your school!

Shared Stories - Diwali

What a colourful celebration Diwali is! Thankfully Melbourne got to a stage in our lockdown where (limited numbers of) people could enjoy the festival together.

Nishal, Prep B
Nishal, Prep B

Nishal, Prep B, celebrated Diwali festival at home with his family & friends by doing pooja (prayer) to Goddess Lakshmi.

Lots of sweets and food is prepared during this festival.  In southern India, Diwali is called 'Deepawali'. Southern India celebrates it as the day that Lord Krishna defeated the demon Narakasura.  We decorate the houses with rows of oil clay lamps and in the evening we do fire works.

Thank you, Nishal's family, for sharing your Diwali story and photos!

Cultural Celebrations

We are so lucky to have such a diverse range of cultures at SMPS! To help us get to know each other, we would love to hear about what you do to celebrate your special days.

Please feel free to email your happy stories and/or photos to smps.faf@gmail.com and we will share them in our newsletter.

After this one, there's only one more SMPS newsletter for the year. Do you celebrate Christmas? Have you put up your Christmas tree? Why not share a pic with your SMPS friends and families? 🎄Send a photo of your Christmas tree to smps.faf@gmail.com by 9 December and we'll include it the next newsletter.

Thank You Notes

Is there someone you'd like to say 'thank you' to for their hard work, care, efforts or dedication during Melbourne's COVID lockdown?

Maybe to the staff at your local Woolies store for doing their best to keep the shelves stocked? Or to those at the COVID drive-through testing stations for being gentle when they performed your COVID test? Or to the police for helping make sure everyone was doing the right thing to get us through the lockdown as quickly as possible? Or maybe to the SMPS teachers for doing an outstanding job teaching online through lockdown?

If you'd like to write a note of thanks to someone, please drop it in the 'Thank you note box', (which will be at reception), by Friday 11 December and we'll deliver them, (collectively, from SMPS F&F), before the end of the 2020 school year.

End of Year Gathering

Please join us after school finishes on Friday 18 December, (the last day of school for 2020), for a gathering at Albert Park.

From 1.30pm, we'll meet at the Coot picnic area for a chat and a play. There's playground equipment, toilets and shelter. Why not bring a picnic blanket and some snacks and relax for an hour or two while getting to know some of your fellow SMPS community members?

Please register your interest by completing the survey below. Depending on the number of people interested in coming along, we may arrange a couple of activities for the children.

This is not an official school event. South Melbourne Primary School are not affiliated with this gathering. The gathering is for community members to spend time with one another. There will be no staff members present. Parents and Carers are required to take full responsibility for their child/children.

SMPS Family Favourites Recipe book

Thank you very much to everyone who has purchased a copy of the SMPS Family Favourites Recipe book.

We understand some people may have experienced issues when trying to order multiple copies of the book.

If you did, please feel free to let us know by emailing smps.faf@gmail.com and we'll be in touch.

We hope everyone has some time to cook and eat many of the delicious foods in the recipe book over the summer holidays. We'd love you to email your experiences and photos of cooking something new to smps.faf@gmail.com  so we can share your stories and photos here, in the newsletter.
