A note from Mr Jackson

School Council Elections

This week, our current school council met for its final meeting. During the coming month we will elect a new School Council that will operate for the next twelve months. As per Department of Education and Training requirements, any school councillors who have served a two year term, or who have been seconded for a one year period, will retire. Retiring school councillors this year are as follows:

Parent Representatives:

Leah Lazzaro

Mike Gowan

Jane Banovac

Yennie Starkey

Pat Goenhought

DET Representatives:

Natalie Richardson

Lynda Whitechurch

All these members have made a significant contribution to our school community. We thank them for their willingness to not only contribute at regular School Council meetings but also their involvement beyond the council, in our wider school council community.

Parents of students of our school are now invited to nominate for the 2020-2022 School Council. For more information about the School Council and the election process, please refer to the attachments with this newsletter. All nominations must be on the correct form that is also included with this newsletter, or available at the office.

FORPS Thanks

Last night at the FORPS AGM our team of volunteers began to map out plans for 2020. In reflecting on last year’s fundraising event, it became clear that more than just raising money, FORPS activities brought people together and helped meld our community. A thanks to those who were at the wheel in 2019 and those who have continued into 2020. I encourage others to drop in on a meeting and share in the adventures ahead.

Special Student Leadership Ceremony

All are invited to join us for our badge presentation ceremony held during our regular Assembly on Friday 28 February 2020. Parents of students in leadership teams including our Junior School Councillors, House Captains, School Captains and Sustainability Team are invited to an earlier afternoon tea at 2:30pm in Chandler Hall. This is an important celebration of students voice and participation within our school.

Student Medications

A reminder that all student medications should come through to the front office and be accompanied with a Medical Authority Form. These can be completed at the office or downloaded in the School Resources menu link on Compass.

Parent Teacher Interviews this Monday

Next Monday student will be expected to be at school all day. Parent Teacher interviews begin at 3:50pm. Parents are asked to be prompt and ensure that the allocated times are respected. If there are particular concerns you wish to followup on, a further appointment can be made with the teacher for a Home Student Support Group Meeting.

Return of Notices

Please ensure the notices that we distributed last week are returned to your child’s classroom teacher. These include the Local Excursions note, Digital Technology Agreements, Seesaw Consent, Publishing Permissions, etc. Recently a note on Special Religious Instruction (SRI) was sent home to parents. It was an invitation to participate in Islamic or Christian classes. These classes are voluntary and are currently scheduled for a Monday afternoon. Please return all these notes to your child’s classroom teacher as soon as possible. Copies of the notes will be available at the Parent Teacher Interview
