Mildura Senior College (MSC) Discovery Day Report

C. Blackie

Our Year 10 students did our school proud at last week's MSC Discovery Day.  With an enormous amount of information to take in, our students were attentive, polite and most importantly they respected the right of all their peers to make the most of the day no matter what their own interests were.  We would like to thank MSC staff and student volunteers for helping to make the day a valuable experience for all our students.

Forensics in School Program Report

J. Williams

Forensics in School Program visited our Year 7 Extension Science group last week.  Students enjoyed solving crimes using their forensic skills.

Year 10 Mildura Senior College (MSC) Course Selections

C. Blackie

Please check that your child's MSC Course Selections have been returned.  They are due back tomorrow Friday 9th August.  These selections help to start discussions about decisions. Students will have many opportunities to change selections if necessary.

Year 10 Course Selection - VET Subjects

C. Blackie

Mildura Senior College (MSC) VET Coordinator Linda Snoxall visited our school and talked with students today.  If students have any questions about VET courses they are encouraged to speak to or email Mr Blackie, Mrs Rayson or Mrs McClure as soon as possible.  Please note that there will be other opportunities to meet with Linda, this was an extra visit arranged prior to Snow Camp.

Year 10 Snow Camp Week

 C. Blackie

Year 10 students who are not going on Snow Camp are expected to attend school as normal next week.  Core and elective classes will continue as normal.  If students do not attend classes, it will count against their attendance rate for Graduation unless a Medical Certificate is provided.  Students who are going on the Snow Camp may be required to complete catch-up work in their own time.  If this catch-up work is not completed, it will affect students chances of achieving a 'Satisfactory' result in their subjects.

Equine Camp Report

H. Willison

Fifteen students from the Year 9-10 Equine Studies ventured to Billabong Ranch in Echuca last Tuesday. The students were given a first-hand opportunity to lead, groom, saddle up and ride horses. Other activities that the students enjoyed were paddle boats, bungee trampolining, archery, camel rides, commando course, night walk, trivia course, animal nursery and an outing to the local Echuca trots meeting.

The food was plentiful and extremely good, along with the wonderful campfire.

The students gained valuable knowledge of being around horses and had a wonderful time. A huge thank you to Mr Ashley Hill for driving the bus and assisting on the camp.

Doctors in Secondary Schools

Remember our doctor’s room is open every Tuesday from 10am–3pm for secondary students.  Student appointments can be made through staff at the school or by calling the Merbein Family Practice on 03 5025 2511 or students can simply drop into the rooms at recess or lunch on Tuesdays. This is a great service, not just when students are sick but for things like prescriptions, asthma and anaphylaxis plans, catch-up immunisations, mental health and any other issues facing secondary students.  Students will need to give their Medicare Card details to the GP clinic.  An easy way to do this is for the student to take a photo of the card on their phone.  Parents do not need to attend appointments with students but are very welcome to come along if the students wish.
