Avocado Leadership Conference Report

C. Piscitelli

Earlier in the year a small group of our Year 6 students attended the 'GRIP Leadership Conference'. They came back armed with knowledge and over the past few weeks have been busy preparing their very own ‘Avocado Leadership Conference’ to present to the Year 4-6 Learning Centre. The two hour conference was professional, engaging and educational. Our leaders did a wonderful job of passing on their new skills in a fun way. Their teachers are very proud (and still recovering from their surprise ‘teacher dance off')!!

The program has taken an innovative approach to ensure all First Aid lessons are a fun and interactive experience for students of all learning capabilities. Trained St John presenters lead students from Year Prep to 6 through tailored sessions on the importance of First Aid and what to do in the event of a medical emergency. Our junior students learn how to identify when there is an emergency, keeping themselves safe, and how to call for an ambulance. Senior students learn about delivering Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the things they can do to assist in an emergency.
