Excursion to Hampton Beach

My humanities class and I went on a field trip to Hampton beach, to look at coastal processes, human use, vegetation and the land management of the environment.

We started our excursion on a sunny day. From Brighton Secondary campus our class went down to Hampton beach. Everybody had their booklets with them to record the information we would gather. When we arrived Mr.Radelj introduced us to the area and told us the boundaries, in which we could make our observations. After that my team started gathering and recording our field work. We measured the wind speed and looked out for coastal processes. We were drawing a sketch of the area and did interviews with people about their use of the environment by doing short surveys. We discovered, that most visitors were walking their dog, running and doing sport or enjoying the area with their kids. After doing all our observations we met up with Mr.Radelj and went back to school at lunch time.

I enjoyed the field trip, because it was something different than just sitting in the classroom. We as well could use our knowledge from class and apply it to a local environment. The excursion successfully improved my understanding of coastal management and processes!
