Aboriginal Education

This term we welcome the Clontarf Foundation to become a part of our school.  The Director for Kurri Kurri - Clark Stanford - has been setting things up ready for Clontarf to really take off inn Term 3.

JAECG

JAECG Executive have had an extremely busy term so far and we still have a few weeks to go.

It started with a planning day in Week 4. They were joined by our local AECG President Sonia Sharpe, to work through their plans for the rest of the year.  Some of the main features of the day were Reconciliation Week,  NAIDOC Celebrations, Sista Speak and a collaborative project with Kuta-kaya.

As has been written about by Mrs Edwards on the Deputies page, Reconciliation Week involved JAECG Executive attending the Elders Morning Tea in Cessnock to celebrate Reconciliation Week.  The morning tea highlighted this year's theme for the week, Be Brave, Make Change.

In week 7 our JAECG Executive Team proudly led our Leadership Day. JAECG and AET executive members from local primary and high schools joined us at KKHS for a leadership day.  Beginning with an Acknowledgement of Country workshop, participants worked hard to personalise their acknowledgements with some genuinely thoughtful ideas. Moving on, the day addressed the challenging issue of bullying through a privilege walk and brainstorming ideas of how to deal with bullying. After a lovely BBQ lunch cooked by our senior Big Picture students it was a 'Choose your own adventure' afternoon with Aboriginal games, Art and Dance. A great day was had by all.

We are now madly planning a variety of activities for our NAIDOC Week Celebrations in Week 10 as well as working towards growing our membership numbers. So if there are any students who are interested in joining the JAECG please keep a look out in the daily notices or see Ms Lewis or any of the JAECG for more information. Well done on a Fantastic Term to everyone involved.
