All Year 10 2023 students and parents who may be interested in studying a VET subject are encouraged to talk to Mr Geurtsen, Mr Fahey or Mr O'Connell about their options.

Construction

Year 11 Construction students have been learning how to use a number of carpentry tools including the Drop Saw, Chisels, Planer and Jigsaw to create a Plywood Toolbox. The students have also started construction on the Group Dog Kennel Project. This task gives students an opportunity to work in teams and learn skills associated with framing, cladding and painting techniques.

Year 12 are completing their final elective unit of Brick and Block laying. Mixing mortar, cutting bricks, site setout, laying bricks and finishing are activities that students always enjoy as the see instant results from their learning experience. The students should also be congratulated on constructing the car for the recent musical. The enthusiasm shown to create something for the school should be commended.

Manufacturing and Engineering

Metal and Engineering students in Year 11 have been acquiring the skills required to fabricate a tool chest. This project requires students to work accurately with a wide range of fabrication tools and equipment to produce a quality project which the students should be able to use for many years to come.

Our Year 12 Manufacturing students have been developing their skills in fabrication, spray painting and welding. We are about to start a vice project which allows students to use a variety of machining operations including lathe and milling operations.

Hospitality

Year 11 Hospitality students have been busy working on their foundational practical skills in the kitchen. They have been learning to cut, slice, dice correctly while building their skills in the kitchen. The students have had a strong start to the course and continue to learn about hygiene and WHS in the kitchen. They are currently planning the menu for the NEAA conference in August.

The Year 12 Hospitality class have been busy learning how to prepare and serve espresso coffee as part of their Certificate II. Students have also been busy in the kitchen learning about different methods of cookery in their practical lessons. Students continue to build on their knowledge and skills in the kitchen.
