At St. Peter’s We Read!

Years 7 & 8 classes have certainly lived up to our St. Peter’s motto of becoming avid readers and readers who read widely; enjoying and benefiting from the diverse range of stories from our college campus libraries. The students enjoy choosing their own books and also engaging with activities and other readers in the online, interactive reading program called Beanstack. In Beanstack the students engage in the  Reading Detective Challenge, where we encourage the students to use self-questioning and self-monitoring strategies whilst they read in order to grow in their understanding and enjoyment of the texts.

Here are our encouraging statistics from Semester 1, 2022

At  St. Peter’s we  strongly encourage a home-school connection with the engagement and enjoyment of reading. The Year 7 & 8 students are making great strides in both reading and their comprehension of their reading and are using these reading strategies to connect with all their subjects. Parents and carers can engage in the reading journey with their students by asking how their ‘Beanstack’ challenge is progressing.
