Try a VET Day at St. Peter’s College

The annual Try a VET (Vocational Education and Training) Day was held across both campuses on Thursday 9th June. It was a huge success with more than 300 Year 9 students getting an opportunity to explore various options available in the VET sector.

10 different VET areas were covered throughout the day:

  1. Engineering & Electrotechnology
  2. Building & Construction
  3. Information Technology
  4. Health Services
  5. Parks and Gardens
  6. Child Care
  7. Music
  8. Sport & Rec
  9. Hospitality & Kitchen Ops
  10. Animal Studies

Students had the opportunity to visit both the Clyde North and Cranbourne campuses to experience the VET programs delivered onsite. The program also included a couple of our local providers who spoke about the Animal Studies and Early Childhood Education and Care VET programs.  The baby chickens at our Clyde North campus were a cute addition to the Animal Studies session with students getting the opportunity to pat them and learn about animal care.  Students also interacted with life-size infant simulators, having an introduction on how to care for babies and provided information on the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care VET program.

Other activities conducted throughout the day included making icing cones to decorate cupcakes, developing basketball skills, creating a live telephone cable, playing different musical instruments and donning the different PPE (personal protective equipment) required for the Health Care workers.  We also thank our VCAL teams for providing morning tea and lunch for our students.

Students received a lot of information on various career pathways available in each of these industries in an interactive environment. More information will be available at the College Futures Expo running on Monday 18th July.  The Parent information sessions will be delivered by the College Leadership team between 4.00 pm and 6.00 pm on a rotating roster at the Cranbourne campus.  Please put this date in your diary!
