Achieving Excellence Together

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school to students, staff, and parents. I trust everyone enjoyed the term break. The children and staff look refreshed and ready for another exciting term. Term three promises to be a busy term with planned experiences such as incursions, excursions, Book Week, 100 Days of Prep celebrations, Father’s Day fundraiser, District Athletics and much more. Of course, despite these enriching programs teaching and learning remains our highest priority with students having already set and begun working toward their learning goals in Literacy and Numeracy which have been shared on SeeSaw.

Healthy Eating

We encourage children to eat food that is good for their brain development. Please assist us by providing healthy food for children’s snacks and lunches each day. This will help their brain function for thinking and learning. As part of the DET Healthy Canteens and Food Services Guidelines there is a ban on schools supplying confectionary to students, thus birthday treats supplied by parents for the grade will be divided amongst the children at the end of the day and sent home for consumption. Likewise, we ask that parents do not send birthday cakes to school as we have a number of students with allergies and hence have a no food sharing policy. Student safety is paramount and needs to remain at the forefront. We thank you for your understanding.

Attendance

There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind and can affect their educational outcomes. We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school on time each day. Missing school can have a major impact on a child’s future – a student missing one day a fortnight will miss four full weeks by the end of the year. By Year 10, they will have missed more than a year of school. Arriving to school late can also affect students’ learning. At Albanvale PS students should arrive at school between 8.45-9.00 am.

 Student Absences

Did you know you can record your child’s absence directly on Compass? Simply login, select your child’s name and click on ‘attendance.’ It is important for the school to be in the event of children being absent from school so that we may maintain accurate absence records. All unexplained absences will be followed up with a phone call to parents from our attendance officer. If you cannot record your child’s absence on Compass, you can also call the office on 9367 2167 or email us at Albanvale.ps@edcation.vic.gov.au

 Prep Enrolment 2023

We have had a number of families submit pre-enrolment forms for their child to commence prep in 2023. In the coming weeks families will receive information confirming their child’s enrolment and providing details about our upcoming Beginning School’s Program. We already have enough students to establish two classes for next year. With places filling up fast, we require families who might be interested in joining us to submit their pre-enrolment for as soon as possible. We will be hosting a group tour in the coming weeks for prospective parents and would appreciate all families to encourage any parents who may be considering schools for next year to come along. The School Tour will be on Thursday 21st July at 9.30 am. Registration is essential please email or contact the school.

More information will come via email regarding, Compass, kindergartens and childcare centres and future school newsletters.
