From the Principal
In the spirit of reconciliation I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We at Mornington Secondary College pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
Dear Parents and carers
It has been a very exciting term with so many events and activities on offer. It was great to see you at the Course Information evening and I know from your communication that you enjoyed discussing your child’s educational pathway with their teachers.
The student teacher conferences have been a great success with students choosing subjects and pathways that will help them connect to their learning and future career pathways.
Recently, we had students involved in the Radio Telescope Program offered by the Victorian Space Science Education Centre as part of the Challenge and Enrichment series in Victoria, Australia. High Abilities teacher, Rebecca Stroud worked with the students as they learnt about radio astronomy. What a fantastic experience for all, as the students learnt to use the Radio Astronomy Pro and Team Viewer software to unpark a real telescope.
You can find out more details about this wonderful experience on the Student Excellence page.
Other great events have included our College Production Mumma Mia. What a magnificent production and thank you to Sarah Jeffs the Director. It is such a privilege to see so many students and staff involved. There will be more on this in the next newsletter.
Year 7 camp to The Summit was a great experience. Year 7 leader Jo Reeman was so proud of the students as they embarked on the many active challenges provided by the camp. The students and staff had a great time.
A recent college incursion of Taiko Drumming was organised by the Head of Language Ayako Masuda. What a treat for our students. Some of the students had the opportunity to be included in the performance led by Japanese traditional drumming performers. It was a great opportunity for students studying Japanese to engage in Japanese culture.
There is so much more to tell you about the wonderful programs and events taking place : such as Hands on Learning, Equine therapy, Koorie Emerging Leadership in Schools Day, Year 8 Health and Wellbeing Week, Year 7 parents meet and Greet, Year 12 TRAG presentation and of course, our core learning program.
