Middle School Snapshot
As we pass the halfway point for the term we are beginning to see many of our new students finding their feet and increasing their participation in the wide array of activities offered at Koonung. The Year 7 students are becoming adept with their locks and timetables and have a working understanding of the schools geography.
This week we held a parent information night for the Year 9 students, targeted at maximising their academic and personal outcomes for the year, as well as best informing them of the opportunities available to them for their senior studies.
On Wednesday we trialled a new format for our annual Year 7 BBQ and it proved to be a great success, following feedback from parents. Our aim was to have parents meet parents of other students in their children’s classes and to allow friendships to form.
The evening was well attended by our local parents and featured a welcome from our school captains, entertainment from musical students as well as a fully engaged student leadership team who sold food and drinks with great aplomb.
The musical performances were amazing as ever, and for the first time featured a Year 7 Choir performance, this is particularly amazing given the timing of the BBQ (week 6), and is a testament to the dedication of the musical department and the passion of our student body.
The students raised almost $600 which will be used to improve the amenities in the Middle Years Subschool as well as $93 from the sales of Hot Cross Buns for the Royal Childrens Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
