Taking on New Opportunities

Over the past couple of months, I was given the opportunity to lead some schools outside our regional network.  There were many new leadership challenges but I found the experience invaluable which enabled me to see how some other schools develop their teaching and learning programs.  My learning has continued as I complete leadership studies at Monash University.  I spoke to our VCE students about taking on new opportunities  that will be offered to them during the course of the year so they can continue to develop their skills and knowledge in various new areas.

Lots of Colour

It was great to see so many different colours and fancy dress during our annual swimming carnival.  The staff at the venue commented that we were the best dressed school.  Well done to all students who participated in the event.  Congratulations to our sports coordinator and sports leaders for coordinating such a fantastic event.

Year 7 BBQ

On Wednesday evening I had the privilege to meet many new parents at our annual Year 7 BBQ.  Many of our students introduced their parents to their teachers and the leadership team.  It was a great event with beautiful music being played in the background.  Congratulations to our teachers, Middle School Team and Student Leadership Team for organising a wonderful night.

Respect

One of our College values is respect.  We as a school community can show respect in many ways.  Over the past two weeks I have seen many of our Koonung students demonstrating respect.  For example:

  • Wearing the College uniform correctly
  • Actively listening to others
  • Being inclusive
  • Looking after school property
  • Using language that is not offensive
  • Being responsible when online
  • Being ready for learning in the classroom.

Parking

Parent and students are reminded of safety when coming to and from school.

  • Parents are expected to drop their son/daughter off in Cairo Road or Box Hill Crescent and students must take care when crossing the roads.  Please do not park across driveways.
  • Please note that the College car parks are for staff only or dropping off students with disabilities.
  • When crossing the busy Elgar road, students are expected to use the school crossing, correctly, just outside the College.
  • When riding to and from school, please ensure that your son/daughter is wearing an approved bicycle helmet

Please discuss with your son/daughter the correct road safety practices

Sister School Visits

Over the past two weeks we have 19 students and 2 teachers from our sister school in Arras, France.  Thank-you to our teachers (Kate & Nicole) for organising the event and to our Koonung families for hosting the students.  On 15th March we welcome Japanese students from Matsudo, Japan.
