Houses/Interschool Sport Report

The first of the major House Carnivals (Swimming) was conducted on Wednesday 28 February at Boroondara Sports Centre.

The weather conditions were ideal apart from the strong wind gusts that swirled around the venue throughout the day.

A large student turnout and plenty of colorful costumes and House spirit all helped to make it a memorable day. We were privileged to have the French exchange staff and students in attendance – they seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. They told me that it was -5 degrees in Paris and much preferred the 31 degrees in Melbourne!

There was plenty of competition in the pool but also novelty events such as the Big Splash, Pool Volleyball and Lapathon to keep students entertained and cool.

At the end of the Competition, the final standings were:

4th place        534 points         Streeton    

3rd place        621 points         McCubbin

2nd place       638 points         Conder

1st place       768 points          Roberts

Congratulations to Roberts House students and House Captains.

Thanks to all students who attended and made the day so enjoyable. I would also like to acknowledge the wonderful support and assistance provided to me by the Koonung staff on the day – the event ran so smoothly due to their dedicated and invaluable contributions.

Age Group Champions from the Swimming Carnival will be presented with Certificates at the next General Assembly.

A total of 65 students qualified for the Whitehorse Division Swimming Competition at Aquanation in Ringwood on Thursday 8 March. Results from this competition will appear in the next Newsletter.

With regards to Interschool Sport, the Intermediate Boys Baseball (Mr Sheehan), Boys Volleyball (3 teams coached by Ms Hodson) and Girls Volleyball (2 teams coached by Mr Sanderson) competed at the Whitehorse Division competitions on Thursday 1 March. Even though we did not win any of these competitions, all students had positive experiences representing our school. The calendar below lists the competitions that will take place in the next few weeks to round off Term 1.
