Meet Mr Mark Drury

Meet our Business Manager
Where have you lived?
I was born and raised in Taree. When I finished Year 12, I moved to Wollongong and remained there for 17 years, then 18 months in Cairns before moving back to Taree, a little over 11 years ago. So I’ve spent 28 years in Taree and I figure that makes me a local.
What’s it like being on staff at TCC?
Our staff as a whole are very motivated and are a close knit team. Our Non-Teaching Staff are the people I spend the most time with and they are amazingly dedicated and committed. I’m very, very fortunate to have been able to build the team that we have and the service that they offer our teaching staff, students, parents and wider community is remarkable. It’s fantastic to be part of a team that are so passionate about Christian education and our mission in our community.
What does your role involve?
It’s very hard to be succinct in describing my role because it is very broad. My responsibilities include the financial management of the College and making sure we have a financially healthy College so our students and staff can keep returning year after year. But there’s also information technology, human resources, project management, marketing and community relations, maintenance and cleaning, long term planning, legal compliance and risk management. In essence it’s the management of our College as a business while trying not to make it seem like a business.
What are you looking forward to at TCC?
We’re in the beginning stages of some larger projects at the moment that will take a few years to work through and happen. I’m also continuing to work on our communication with parents and refining how we do that most effectively. The continual refinement of our processes and systems is ongoing and reflective of changing needs for parents, students and teachers. In a nutshell, change brings possibilities for improvement or enhancement so I look forward to the subtle changes (such as staffing) that bring about new possibilities.
2018 will be the first group of students at TCC that I will have watched go from Kindy all the way through Year 12. Even though I don’t get much interaction with students I’m still very proud of them making it through school and the HSC, watching them grow in maturity and developing their gifts and skills in that time, and I always enjoy hearing what our students achieve after school.
How do you like spending your spare time?
There’s many things that I would love to do and not enough hours to do them. I’m in the beginning stages of beekeeping and I’m enjoying that. I’m also in the process of building a house for the first time (after many school building projects) and that’s a fun process. I still bike ride and run occasionally, and one of these days I want to return to flying again – but maybe this time in a gyroplane just for something different. I play the guitar and after over 30 years of playing guitar I still enjoy discovering new concepts to play. Contributing to church and developing my faith are integral parts of who I am and will continue to shape my thinking in my role in the College. The rest of my time is spent with Sal, Kate and Cameron and enjoying the special things that they bring to my life and that we share together.
