From the Principal's office

Mr Coleman writes...

Greetings. We had a big start to Term 4 with our performance of Peter Pan Jr. It was an outstanding success and we received lots of wonderful feedback from the community. Congratulations go to all the students involved, whether on stage or behind the scenes. It’s a big commitment for students to be involved in such an event; they still have their usual schoolwork and other commitments. It was clear from the performances that our students have been blessed with enormous talent and creativity. Being part of a school musical is a true life experience for our students and one that will be a great memory for them. Of course, such events can’t succeed without staff involvement. We gratefully thank Mrs Donaldson, Mr Donaldson, Ms Stevens, Mrs Grimwood, Mr Craig, Mr Elith and Mr Drury for their commitment and dedication and for supporting and inspiring our students. Thanks also to Mrs Fletcher for help with ticketing and to Miss Gayle Stevens for her assistance making those amazing costumes! We also thank the other staff, parents and carers who helped with make-up, driving to rehearsals and other jobs!

Prior to that, I took 12 students, three parents and Mr Green and Ms Bevan to Japan for a study tour. Our first week was in Tokyo and the students had a homestay with a Japanese family while taking part in activities such as judo, tea ceremony, calligraphy, kimono wearing and classes at a Japanese secondary school. The second week was travelling to Hiroshima, Kyoto and Osaka before flying home. It was a wonderful two weeks and our students were good ambassadors and many thanks to three mums who came along who were very helpful. Overseas experiences such as this allow students to develop intercultural understanding skills, a vital skill in an increasingly globalised world. It was a good chance to see another part of God’s beautiful creation.

Last week we held a training day for our new Year 12 Leaders. Following breakfast together the day started with different teachers taking sessions that helped our student leaders to understand their roles. It was a great pleasure to work with such an enthusiastic group. It is important that we provide our future leaders with an opportunity to learn about the concept of good leadership. Thanks to Mrs Wiersma for organising the day.

Our student leadership for 2018 are:
