Year 11 Studio Arts
Students studying Year 11 Studio Arts attended a portraiture drawing class at the Hume Global Learning Centre on Wednesday 11 October. The class was run by Ms Shae Downer, who is a highly accomplished artist and recipient of a Hume Arts Award. An exhibition of her art work is on display now in the Gee Lee-Wik Doleen Gallery. She has completed amazing charcoal drawings of hands. She taught the students the techniques she uses to draw realistic portraits using charcoal pencil and willow charcoal and different erasers.
Here are some photos of the work completed by Emily Jones, Emily Galea and Jasmine Harrington during the two-hour session.
Year 10 Visual Arts excursion to NGV Term 3
Students studying Year 10 Visual Arts attended an all-day excursion on Wednesday 20 September and visited some iconic art works in the National Gallery of Victoria. Students saw works by artists such as Andy Warhol, Picasso and Claude Monet. Many other new and exciting artworks by contemporary artists were discussed and discovered on the day.
Seeing artworks in this setting instead of online or in a book is exciting and brings to life the context and the meanings. Students will use this experience to complement their knowledge of art theory as well as inspiration for their own artworks. Currently students are working on creating a conceptual sculpture in their practical task. Last term they completed a drawing/painting using mixed media that had to have symbolism, some realism and a figurative element and inspiration from another art style. Students developed their own meaning and style.
