CRANBOURNE EAST SECONDARY COLLEGE’S BLENDED LEARNING IMPLEMENTATION

Cranbourne East Secondary College has always been a firm believer of creating content that is highly engaging for students in order to increase learning. Last year, the Year 8 Humanities team was able to trial the new online blended learning unit for their Term 2 topic of ‘Medieval History’. Students who completed the unit gave positive feedback based on their learning experience.

WHAT IS A BLENDED LEARNING UNIT?

A blended learning unit is a combination of both traditional face-to-face teaching with online virtual learning. By doing so, the advantages of both can be capitalised on. Teachers will be able to go around the classroom and facilitate the collaboration between students and their application of the concepts that were taught. At the same, students are able to work at their own pace and continue that learning at home even when they are absent from the classroom as their learning will be monitored through interactive tasks which provide instant feedback.

BLENDED LEARNING FOR 2018 AT CRANBOURNE EAST SECONDARY

In addition to the Year 8 Humanities blended learning unit, a new Year 8 Science blended learning unit has been created for the Term 2 topic of ‘Light & Sound’. The main differences between the Humanities and Science unit is that Science classes usually incorporate science experiments as practicals. Students who are absent are now able to watch videos which discuss the concepts and skills being taught in those lessons as a way to catch up on what they missed out on. Both units are expected to conclude around the end of Term 2 so do keep checking in on our newsletter updates regarding their progress and any potential new blended learning classes which might start.
