Assistant Principal News
Welcome back to Term 2. I hope everyone had a relaxing holiday and Easter break. Term 2 is always a very important time in Senior School; many of our students will be involved in examinations and major assessment tasks over the coming weeks.
All Year 11 and 12 VCE students will have end of semester examinations. A reminder, end of semester one is Thursday 7th June. Year 11 and 12 examinations will commence on Friday 8th June until Friday 15th June. Examination Timetables will be distributed to students in the coming weeks. Students must have a study/revision timetable in place and consistently review their class notes in preparation for these examinations. Any students who would like assistance with study skills should contact their Teacher, Year Level Coordinator or myself. Students who are studying a Unit 3 and 4 (Year 12) subject are required to sit the General Achievement Test (GAT) on Wednesday 13th June. There will be no timetabled Year 12 classes on this day or during the examination week.
Thank you to all parents / guardians and students who attended parent teacher interviews. We have received lots of positive feedback from both staff and parents regarding the quality of conversations and the importance of communication between home and school. These interviews provide an important opportunity for parents, students and teachers to work together to further improve learning outcomes. If any parents did not have the opportunity to speak with individual teachers, I encourage you to contact your child’s Year Level Coordinator to arrange a meeting time to receive feedback on your child’s progress/performance in Term 1.

Senior School Assistant Principal

Career Action Plans
In Victoria, all students 15 years and over in Government schools are provided with Individual Pathway Plans and associated support as a means to continued education, training or full-time employment.
CAPs help young people to:
- Make a smooth transition from compulsory schooling to further education, training and employment
- Develop skills to manage their Pathways throughout their working lives
- Develop their knowledge, understanding and experience of opportunities in education, training and employment.
It is extremely important for our students to know where they are planning to head at the completion of their schooling. To this end, every Year 10, 11 and 12 student will have an Careers Action Plan interview with Nancy Huez-O’Rourke and Liz Hassell.
Please support your young person in assisting them to complete the CAP. Careers Action Plan appointments will start on Monday 30 April until Friday 1 June.

VCE calendar
Please be aware that the VCE SAC Calendar is live on compass. You are able to access this and see when your child has a SAC/event coming up.
Students need to be aware of their upcoming SACs so they are able to best prepare for them. In the lead up to their SACs it is vital that the students are at school attending their classes and speaking to their teachers and making the most of the time they have with their teachers.
Keeping up to date with coursework is becoming an issue for students. The 3 weekly progress reports are a good way to track how your child is performing.
If you are unable to access Compass please contact the school to receive your username and password.
Mid Year Exams
Unit 3 exams commence on Friday, 8th June, with students sitting an English exam. Students will be receiving their exam timetable and instructions on how the week will run, shortly.

MEDEA Excursion
On Friday the 4th of May (May the force be with you), our year 12 students went to The Drum Theatre in Dandenong to see Medea. Medea is an ancient Greek play written by Euripides in 431BC, and we are studying it in VCE English Unit 3.
It was great to see many students attend their first ever play, and the fact we were able to have a question and answer session with the actors afterwards really helped increase the students’ understanding of the play and historical context. Being able to understand the way ancient Greeks thought about citizenship and visitors to the lands is vital to understanding the play, and the session really helped the students significantly.
The play follows Medea who commits the most horrific crime of killing her own children, and it was interesting for the students to see the actors interpret the dialogue of the play.
