Over the past 6 months of hard training I have managed to compete in all three major track & field championships. I didn’t always get the result I wanted but I’ve learnt that you don’t always have to win, you should just be happy to have the experience and to compete at a high level.
I competed at the National All school track and field championships, the National combined event championships and the Australian junior track and field championship, where I managed to finish in the top 10 at all championships.
I competed in the hammer throw at the Australian all school championship. I had to compete in the older age group since they didn’t have my age group, I wasn’t happy with my result but I tried my best to enjoy the experience while I could. My overall result was 10th in the u/16 girls.
Next I competed at the Australian combined event championships which went over 2 days. It was the most mentally challenging thing I’ve done in my sports. I competed in something called a Heptathlon which consist of the following 7 events: 90m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m sprint, long jump, javelin and 800m run. It was a really fun and I’ll never forget it. It was one of the most fun experience’s of my life. I managed to receive the bronze medal in Victoria and finished 9th in Australia.
Lastly I competed in the Australian track & field championships which was the last major completion for the summer season. I competed in the u/16 girls hammer throw and finished with the best result all season. I placed 6th although I was happy with my placing I wasn’t happy with my throws as they were all below average. But I realised I should just enjoy the experience and atmosphere.
