5/6 with Mel

This week in 5/6 M we have been learning to write persuasively.

The word persuade means to convince someone to believe or agree with your ideas or opinions.

We have been learning to use Persuasive Devices in our writing to ensure our arguments are strong.

Here are some of the devices!

Alliteration, is using a series of words that begin with the same sound. For example: Parents are particularly pretty.

The rule of 3, is using 3 key words that are group together.

For example: Our students are curious, clever, and hard working

There are rhetorical questions, which are questions we already know the answers to.

For example: Are you sick and tired of sitting on the cold floor listening to us speak?

There is exaggeration, where we make statements that are untrue or overtop.

For example:  Our teacher Mel is the best teacher in the entire world!

There is repetition, where we repeat the same word for our readers to remember.

For example: Games are good for us. We should really go out for a game. Won’t you let us go for a game?

And finally, we use facts to state what is proven to be true.

For example: It is a fact that 5/6 love to talk and be loud!

In our class this week, we were given the challenge to create a new and delicious donut to sell to our bakery owner Mel, to put in her shop!

We had to be creative, understand what our buyer wanted and of course use our persuasive devices to convince Mel ours was the best!

Which one do you think is the best?
