National Walk Safely to school Day

The objectives of National Walk Safely to School Day are:

  • To encourage parents and carers to walk regularly with their children, all or part of the way to school.
  • To promote the health benefits of walking and create regular walking habits.
  • To help children develop vital road crossing skills and ensure children up to the age of 10 years hold an adult’s hand when crossing the road.
  • To reduce car dependency and traffic congestion, especially around schools.
  • To reduce the level of air pollution created by motor vehicles.
  • To promote the use of public transport.

On Monday 23rd May we participated in Walk safely to school day. A big thanks to the teachers that met the children at The Lynbrook Community Centre and Figtree Reserve to walk the students to school. It was lovely to see the students getting involved with an Action Team making a morning gathering slide to promote the event. Another huge thanks to Courtney and the P& F for organising for some free fruit for the children when they arrived to school, generously donated from Woolworths Marriott Waters. And a big congratulations to all the children who participated in walk safely to school. Let’s stay healthy, active and help protect the environment.

SFS Twilight Market and Art show

We are eagerly anticipating our annual SFS Twilight Community market and Art Show which will be held on Thursday 3rd November from 5pm until 8pm. There are a variety of stalls booked in including clothing, homeware, jewellery and some delicious food trucks. We are still looking for more stallholders particularly from our SFS school community. Get together with your family and come up with an idea of something you could make and sell at the market. For all enquiries or for an expression of interest form, please contact rlenko@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au

The Resilience Project

At SFS, we are partners with the Resilience Project. The students learn about the 4 key principles to build resilience, gratitude, empathy, mindfulness and emotional literacy. Working on gratitude helps us to be thankful and appreciate what we have in our lives, rather than focussing on what we don’t have or what we want. When we practise being grateful, we start to scan the world to look for positives – this only takes 21 days!

Here are some ideas you might like to try …

  • Think about a friend or family member you are grateful for and write them a letter. Tell them why they are important to you and what you love about them.
  • Around the dinner table or before bed, have everyone talk about 3 things that went well for them that day.
  • Have a discussion of what you are looking forward to the following day, week, month.

The following link is taken from the TPR at home website which has lots of practical ideas to help build resilience in your children, at home.
