Reading & Writing
In Reading, the students will be learning to:
- Read and identify the structure and language features of a variety of text and understand how this relates to the purpose and audience.
- Make and justify predictions throughout a text, based on content knowledge, organisational structure and previous reading experience.
- Summarise the important information in a text as you read without including unnecessary detail.
- Revise ideas, information and opinions in response to texts and justify thinking based on personal knowledge and evidence from the text.
- Read widely to expand content knowledge and respond to more complex texts that are beyond the reader’s typical experiences.
In Writing, the students will be learning to:
- Identify misspelt words in their writing and use a range of strategies and resources to make corrections e.g. Knowledge of common spelling patterns, word families, dictionaries and word lists.
- Make decisions about genre depending on the purpose for writing and the intended audience (to entertain, persuade, inform).
- Edit for spelling and the correct use of a range of punctuation depending on the purpose e.g. exclamation marks, quotation marks, ellipses.
