THE YEAR 6 JUMPERS ARE HERE!

The students were very excited with the arrival of our Year 6 jumpers.

These jumpers celebrate our Year 6 students in their final year of primary school.

This is a year to commemorate all that they have achieved in their schooling and to celebrate who they have become as learners and individuals. We are looking forward to seeing what this year holds for them.

YEAR 3/4 AND 5/6

‘How Things Grow’

Students in years 3 - 6 have started investigating living things and answering the BIG question ‘How Things Grow’ this term in Curiosity. Throughout the term students may explore what living things need to survive and grow, how they might adapt to survive and the human impact on the environment and living things. At the start of the LAUNCH cycle students have had the opportunity to ‘Look, Listen and Learn’ as they develop their awareness of living things.

As learning doesn't just happen at school, on Thursday 5th May students took a trip to different parts of Albert Park Lake to identify living and nonliving things. On Wednesday 18th May students had the opportunity to be a part of a Bee Keeping immersion experience with Nathan Stewart from Maya Xala Honey. Students learnt about Nathan and his profession of beekeeping, how beehives work and the significance of bees in our environment. Students were very curious throughout the session, asking inquisitive questions and sharing their wonderings. Students each had the opportunity to look through a microscope to explore what bees looked like up close, many surprised at how hairy the bees eyes were. Nathan explained the different kinds of bees, the life cycle of bees and the process of making honey. Students and teachers included, got to try Nathan’s amazing honey direct from his honey farm in Doreen.

What activities did our students take part in?

  • Looking at some bees under a microscope
  • Taste testing some honey from Nathan’s honey farm
  • Exploring a beehive and honeycomb structures

It has been an excellent start to our curiosity unit and we look forward to working through the rest of the LAUNCH cycle this term before LAUNCHING our learning to an audience at the end of the term.
