NHS Community Garden

Year 12 students planting out the garden

Reaping the benefits of a sustainability plan

Our Year 12 VCAL students have done some fantastic work in an extended project on sustainability. We began exploring the impact of food miles and food waste and discussed how our school community could reduce them for the benefit of the environment. After plenty of research around the school, the class made a sustainability plan for NHS.

Students have worked as a team to develop the NHS Community Garden, planting and maintaining plenty of herbs and vegetables.

John Scott, our NHS maintenance manager has been a great help, so thank you from all VCAL students. Another big thank you is to E&A Salce Pty. Ltd in Thornbury, for donating the mulch which has protected the produce, helping it to grow as well as it has done.

The class ran their first mini Farmers Market with great success. Next, we will be re planting and making delicious products with the produce such as jars of pesto. All funds will then be donated to a charity of the class's choice. Watch this space 😊
