Representing Victoria at the National Canoe Sprint Championships
My sister and I have been kayaking for over a year, starting from my parents' gift for my year six graduation.
We started with canoe polo, and now, do sprint kayaking as well. This year, we were were chosen as part of the Victorian state team and had the opportunity to go to the 2022 National Canoe Sprint Championships.
This year, I raced in the under 14s and my sister in under the12s category, going against Australia’s best in sprint kayaking. In my category, there were 17 others from different parts of the country.
I had a few goals and was able to meet them all. One of them was to keep or beat my personal best and I brought it down in my 200m race on Friday. I raced in K1 (single person) and some team boats (K2 - for 2 people, and K4 -for 4 people). I won a silver medal in a 4 person kayak (or a k4) in a 500m race, and a bronze in a 200m race.
I hope I can make it to the nationals again next year, and also want to try to go to the marathon nationals, too. It is planned to be in Perth, and marathon in Victoria in 2023.
