Reconciliation Week in the Library
John Cain Library is celebrating National Reconciliation Week (27th of May - 3rd June).
On Monday this week, students made badges and bracelets in the colours of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island flags. They also did mindfulness colouring of designs created by Aboriginal artists, and had the opportunity to write a reconciliation message which is now on display in the library. First Nations films, documentaries, and music videos were shown during lunchtime, and this will continue for the rest of the week.
Come along to the library to check out the activities happening throughout the week where we will learn, share, create understanding and celebrate First Nations culture and history. Together we can take steps forward towards reconciliation.
Visiting author Tony Birch
Last Friday, the English Faculty organised for First Nations author Tony Birch to speak to some of our Year 10 and 11 students in the library. Three of Birch’s novels are best sellers, and he has won the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Indigenous Writing amongst other awards and accolades. It was a privilege to hear Birch talk about his path to becoming an author, along with the more technical processes behind his story telling and character development in his books. His engaging talk was very inspiring.
