What’s on in BEST?

Year 8 BEST
In BEST we have been exploring our vital signs which are body temperature, pulse rate, respiration rate (rate of breathing) and blood pressure. For our PBL we have had the opportunity to create an experiment on a vital sign and incorporate how we can make them go up and down. For my experiment I chose to change my respiratory system by changing the intensity of exercise. I counted my breathes sitting down, walking 20 meters, running 20 meters and sprinting 20 meters. Overall, this experiment was very fun and we all had a great time studying how our vital signs operate.

Recently I have been learning about body systems. This term for my PBL I chose to watch different genres of clips to see which type of clip would increase my heart the most. The genres I chose were 'jump scares', 'creepy' and 'funny'. I tested my heart rate before, during and after. For example, when watching the videos of jump scares my heart rate dramatically increased from my resting heart rate of 70bpm to a skyrocketing 90bpm. This test proved my hypothesis correct because I predicted that during the scary clips my heart would increase and when watching the funny videos, it would decrease.
