College Captains' Report

On Thursday 2 June, the Year 8 students had their Wellbeing Day. The theme was respectful relationships and included a workshop at school from the company SEED. The Year 8 students made things to take home as a reminder of everything they learnt on the day. From what we heard, the workshop was a fantastic bonding opportunity for the students.
The Year 9 students also had two Wellbeing Days that included on and offsite workshops over the course of Thursday 9 and Friday 10 June. The students participated in a global wellbeing day to learn about the wider community where they had the choice to go to the city to learn about homelessness in Melbourne, to Edendale Farm to learn about the environment in need, or to go to the RSPCA and learn about animals in need. Students also engaged in a local wellbeing day where activities like bubble soccer and cooking were held at school.
Also, last week, the Year 10s and 11s completed their exams. As a new school, it's exciting for the foundation students to move through into the senior years. Well done to everyone for completing their exams, hopefully it was a useful learning experience to all!
Coming up, on Wednesday 15 June, the Year 9 students are having a Market Day. Throughout the semester in innovate the Year 9s have been creating their own social enterprise through the ‘Young Change Agents’ program. They will be setting up stalls at lunch on Wednesday for students of all year levels to purchase their products, and the funds will be going to charity. No cash or cards will be used at the market day, instead tokens can be purchased, worth $1 each at the office.
Also a few reminders for the rest of the term. This week, Monday and Thursday are student-free days, due to the Queen’s birthday holiday and a teacher Professional Planning Day. And on Tuesday 14 June the Year 11’s have their own Wellbeing Day!
And finally, to finish off a busy term, the Year 10s will complete Work Experience in Week 9. As the first year level at Beaumaris Secondary College to complete work experience (due to COVID restrictions last year), we’re very excited for our Year 10s to have this great opportunity as they get to explore new and exciting industries! Also, while the Year 10s are on Work Experience, the Year 9s will be on their camp/s. They had a choice of many different camps to go on, and will get to participate in a wide range of fun activities.
